1926 American Flyer, No.13 Passenger Train Set in Original Box

1926 American Flyer, No.13 Passenger Train Set in Original Box

Remarkable example of the classic "Made In America", early, boys train set from American Flyer. Purchased last year from the estate of the original owner it's complete and in excellent+ condition with the original box. I was told that it had been used less than half a dozen times (and it looks it) before the front left wheel broke off the locomotive. It was then stored and forgotten until it's owner passed away. I've had the wheel professionally replaced with an original No. 13 wheel with original paint. A reproduced or recast wheel was not used.

This is wind-up, O-gauge clockwork train set No. 13 manufactured in 1926. Five years ago, I sold an identical boxed set which still had the original dated receipt. I had taken a photograph of that set  which was later published in the Antiques Roadshow 20th Century Collectibles Guide, Workman Publishing, 1st Ed. 2003, pg. 196.

The set comes with an A.F. #13 cast iron, clockwork locomotive with attached key and manual brake switch. The three lithographed tinplate cars include a #120 tender, a #1108 baggage car, and a #1107 coach car.

Track pieces include three straight, nine curved, and two oval forming switches. Total track length is 13ft. 10in.

The original box is complete with cover, bottom and inserts. The cover has a full color print of a speeding locomotive emerging from a tunnel drawn in perspective. The make believe roles for boys as an Engineer, President, and Dispatcher are pictured above.

Size: Train length 24". Box 15" x 12" x 3".
